2nd trip of 2024
I needed to get fishing and the only time I could go was Saturday night, but the tides were wrong for the marks I know. The only low water mark I have is a ray mark but its still early for them, so a few WhatsApp's later my mate Graeme put me onto a mark not too far from a Stoney beach I have fished in the pass. I arrived just after high water and had to wade a gulley to the rock platform, wasn't too deep but any earlier I would have had to wait. I was soon set up with two rods, one baited with sand eels and the other lug and crab. First cast and within minutes the scratching rod was bouncing, singing the tune of crabs munching. Once the offending crab had been released I rebaited and sent another offering seaward. Once again crabs stripped the baits but it wasn't long before the lug landed a whiting. i tried mussel crabs sand eel, mackerel and lug but the only baits that worked where lug and sand eel. So a double sand eel was launched into the deep in the hope of a huss or dog( something that's bigger than a pin whiting). The crab continued to strip the fish baits even when I put out half a mackerel, they even ate the bait elastic. I got a good knock on the scratching rod and it turn out to be a decent sized dab and while unhooking it the double sand eel I had sent out got a pull down then nothing, so I refreshed the baits on the scratching rod cast out and checked the big bait rod, to my surprise a plump codling had taken the double sand eel bait. Now that's a first for me as I have only ever caught codling on squid crab or lug before. So in renewed hope I rebaited and cast out again, but after 2 am the bites stopped and the crabs where out in force so at 3.30am I called it quits and headed back to the car, the short walk to the carpark soon warmed me up and when I took off the bib and brace I realized how cold it was. All in all not a bad nights fishing with 3 codling, 6 whiting and a nice dab, sorry there's no pictures as my phones camera needs an update so it wouldn't work, so until the next time tight lines and stay safe.

Re: 2nd trip of 2024
Nice going MC. I had just logged on to see if there was any new reports for me to read as I procrastinate my study. Thanking you!
Sometimes it's just an uphill battle with those bloody crabs, at least you persevered through them for a few fish! A codling on sandeel is quite interesting, only ever really seen dabs and bass take it!
Tight lines for the nest session
