Results:must have been at least 30 coalfish between us, all decent size bar 2. 1 pollock and 2 codling both around the pound mark.


Report:back at orlock again!! its fishing so well, i had to. we were sick to the teeth of catching mackerel so we dug alot of king rag and hit orlock in search of pollock, coalies and wrasse. have to say we didn't catch any wrasse but i seen a few decent ones being caught by someone just down the rocks from us. but it was good to see codling being caught, unfortunately for me tommy caught both of them. did'nt realise u could catch them at orlock but there u go. i wonder if it is worth a blast in winter for some bigger cod??? all in all another great days sport!!!

u should go mate, nowhere else like it locally. and if u are prepared to take a walk there is some really deep water spots. i know for certain that there is conger in certain places although they don't interest me. caught a nice lsd a couple of months back also, so u have plenty of species to target chum.

rab big g here myself and big robin hit greys point first thing yesterday morning for the mackerel as per your directions we had great sport from the first casts . we had over 40 in a few hours. we then went to orlock for the first time. robins first cast 3 good mackerel my first cast 2 small coalies. it was non stop only a few more mackerel but lots of coalies and pollock plus we also got 4 small cod all the fish were caught with feathers great days fishing cheers rab.

hi big g!! sounds like u had some great sport!! glad to have helped mate, orlock is fishing fantastic isn't it?? i predict some really decent fish getting reported from there this summer!! really glad u fished greys point, grew up fishing the place. there really isn't many places fish better for mackerel. also give greys point a crack in a month or two with ragworm on the float u'll have a few suprises! maybe see u on the rocks some time big g!

Hello lads, i don't know if this is proper form or not but any chance of some directions to the places mentioned . I'm not a basher by any means but will take 6 or 8 mackeral for the pan. I live near Sainsburys in Belfast and take the odd drive to Ardgalss but it really does get congested and you get tortured with the seals plus Bangor is closer to home. Any help much appreciated.

greys point: drive along the belfast-bangor carriageway until u see a sign for helens bay. take a left and follow the road until u see a sign saying leading the grey point fort, take that road and at the end of the road there is a carpark beside the fort. follow the path at the side of the fort wall, this will bring u down to the rocks. great mackie spot!

orlock head: situated between groomsport and donaghadee. u will notice a lay-by on ur left with a row of white houses, u can park to the left of these houses beside the fence. again rock fishing and there is plenty of rocks to fish off here. most people fish off the rock and the top of the steps but believe me it pays to take a dander. alot more species here than greys point. there is still plenty of mackies but there is plenty of pollock, coalies and wrasse around the rocks. conger and doggies if thats ur thing and as i said in my last report there is cod also.

Many thanks Rab, I mainly go after trout and salmon so havn't much of a clue of where to go that isn't going to be totally bunged.

Gonna give this a bash tomorrow afternoon just to get out again haven't fished in weeks, goin with Drew and some other fella, hope for a few mackeral for fresh bait, haven't caught one from the shore yet, then again i haven't actively targetted them because i hate them I'd assume the whole bottom around Orlock is very rough ground and not worthwile bottom fishing?

hi livid, the rocks to the right as u walk thru the fence r okay to bottom fish, good spot for doggies here but haven't fished it in a while coz it has been covered with people feathering mackerel. and the first rock at the top of the steps is alright to bottom fish off. anywhere on round can be very snaggy, large kelp beds everywhere. if u can get some ragworm bring them, u gotta have a break from trailing the mackies in all day.

took a drive out for a nosey to see what the place looked like with my gf at the weekend. Really nice spot and sure looks hopeful.
I was a bit unsure of how you guys wouyld normally access it though. I drove into orlock road and then up a dead end road with a private sign on it and some monster big houses at the coast. parked outside these houses and walked down a path between 2 of em. I take it thats not the normal way? I asked a local and he seemed keen to keep us away from the area

assuming your coming from bangor towards D.Dee, you drive on down past the sign for Orlock. about a half mile on down the road youll see a small turn off/layby type thing on your left.

If you park in there you'll see a public pathway.
