Friends were out in their Orkney off Mayo's Downpatrick Head last weekend and pulled in a couple of dozen medium-sized macks. They've beern scarce enough this early in recent years, and usually fairly small, so nice to see the uptick.

Local anglers who braved the winds round Downpatrick Head (the real one in North Mayo!) had a promising few bucketloads last week, but it seems to have gone patchy again this week. Were the shoals just passing by on their way to Iceland for the "summer"?

Mulranny

Two small ones last nigh to small herring style lures (Pollack loved them) at the top of the time into darkness in almost flat calm conditions.

2 of us out for 6 hours in Dingle Bay yesterday, only 3 Mackerel between us. Thankfully a couple of big shoals of Pollack provided a bit of sport.

Situation dire!
