Sturdy reel for mackerel bashing

#1 Post by patk »

I am looking to get a cheap reel for my son to drag in 3 or 4 ozs of lead and feathers in deep water a couple of times during the summer. Im a saltwater fly and light lure angler so dont know much re a good " winch" that wont cost the earth and can do the described job. I guess a big reel for heavy line 6/7/8000 plus size? any recommendations welcome. Thanks

5000-6000 size reel would be ideal

What I got for the job, few years in and not a problem as yet. Weighs a ton but does come with spare spool.
