Poolbeg Lighthouse 08.07.2020

#1 Post by Gonzo »

When: 08/07/2020
Where: Poolbeg Lighthouse
Duration: 12:00-14:30
High Water: 14:51
Equipment: 11ft Daiwa bass rod with Shimano 4000 Reel - 9ft Abu Garcia Spinning Rod with Shimano 4000 Reel
Bait/Rig: Red pollock basher feathers on the 11ft rod & ragworm on the float with the 9ft rod.
Conditions: Overcast with persistent drizzle.
Result: A corkwing wrasse

First time fishing at Poolbeg lighthouse, I've been wanting to try for mackerel here for a while, so I packed some feathers and left over ragworm from boat fishing yesterday. I setup a float with the ragworm on my 9ft rod and cast it out about 3m and kept it tight to the rocks. So while waiting for a bite I got to casting my feathers, guy beside me caught a pollock that was just about eating size, I ended up losing 2 sets of feathers to snags and ran out of weights but while reeling in the float to check the bait I actually had a fish on without realizing, turned out to be a nice little corkwing wrasse! Lovely colours on this fish so it was worth the drive to this spot!

Yeah I think the identifying mark is the little blue spot on the bottom?

Ah that's what the identification guide was talking about lol but I had a closer look at the pic and it does look like it also had a black spot in the center near the tail fin but it's hard to see with the glare..
