Safely fishing low tide on the beach

Hi guys,

Just looking to get some tips on fishing the beach at low tide safely? I've read on a couple of threads now that a good time to fish for bass on Dublin/Meath/Louth beaches is last 2 hours of the ebb and first hour of the flood. I'd really like to try this but I'd be worried about the tide coming in behind me, especially on spring tides, what steps can I take to fish low water safely?

Good set offchest wader and a life jacket .move with the tide and pay attention to your surroundings.common sense will keep you out off trouble

Survey the beach at different times on the flood.

Make sure you know where the water will come in... sometimes there are channels that are not that obvious and they can fill remarkably fast. There are several like this around Dublin especially on the Velvet strand, which is notorious for trapping people...

Another point - never fish alone. Keep the kit light if you are fishing in waders and a life jacket.

I'd definitely get to know where's what.
1-1 1/2 hr into the tide it can rise a meter. Walking off a shallow sand bank into a 1 metre deep gully you'll find a sudden strong current. Couple that with rocky, soft or generally uneven ground underfoot, you could end up in a world of trouble.

I'd agree with ken41 on that especially on the Louth beaches those rides come up fierce quick

Hi Gonzo stick to early morning low tides as this will allow you to fish into daylight
as the sun rises it is also some of the best times to fish for bass pick a tide with a low water time of between 5/7 am and start the fishing then at the low water time you are then fishing the rising tide upwards into daylight

Be no harm to fish a dropping tide either see what it's like when fully in and see where it emptys out to

Well for lug I usually dig that myself, and for the rest I buy from my local tackle shop swords angling centre

Thanks. After spinning on Monday I will be bringing bait and spinning rods to another place and day that Ive been told to try for bass and seatrout.
