Excellent, hope it yields some nice fish for you. I'm down South Wexford and Waterford next week for some Cod fishing. Looking forward to hearing how you get on? Tight Lines, stay safe.Teegerstk wrote:Heading out tonight armed with lug, crab and squid. Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
Here is a tip I use on some of the east coast beaches. Use a long wire lead and on the wire make a plastic lead lift.this brings your lead and everything else above all the weed and rocks the faster you reel in the higher your gear will rise.
I have not fished in two years hoping to change that this year with anything ?

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
Same here, frenzied small nibbles on initial cast for me the other night, bait not entirely stripped, but gnawed at. Pulled in a pin whiting, didn't even notice it on, through the gill. Very small. But at least there were no crabs, and more importantly bites! From real fish!! How exciting! Weed wasn't a problem, beautiful night (chilly). But promising nonetheless.donal domeney wrote:Fished Ferrypoint again last Sunday from low water small fish only

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
Think the problem in youghal regarding Cod fishing the last few years is the lack of crabs. Been farmed out of it.Rod Tips wrote:Same here, frenzied small nibbles on initial cast for me the other night, bait not entirely stripped, but gnawed at. Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
It is not just crabs that are missing there are little or no mussel left in the harbour channel after they were trawled out by commercial fishing for mussel seed licenced with the help of the tourist bord who aided them to got an extension on the licence.=

Hi Ashley Great work you are doing on this scandal of mussel dredging along the east coast. I have tried to contact the MSC site you included in one of your posts and was unable because my computer is only working in safe mode at the moment my graphics card needs to be upgraded But I have found this article =
Paul Barlow, Woodstown Bay Shellfish Limited, Michael Crowley, Riverbank Mussels Limited, Gerard Kelly, Fresco Seafoods Limited, Tardrum Fisheries Limited, ..... as well as being the skipper of the Hibernia fishing vessel owned by the fourth named defendant—is a director of one of the corporate Plaintiffs I found it in the courts.ie files after reading about Paul Barlow being arrested for illegal
fishing by the Irish navy twice. Unfortunately I could not access the court files with my computer in safe mode so I will have to wait until I upgrade my graphic card maybe you could have a look for yourself.

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
In fairness Youghal was one of the best Cod fisheries in the country. The issue of farming/dredging is on topic as its seens its the reason why there have been so few fish there the last few years. The forum is ;ole a morgue the last few years you should allow discussion or even more will jump ship

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
This topic was started to help anglers with the best tips for rigs and bait for locating the best cod marks to fishing from.
While the issue of the removal of the food chain for cod is important it would be best if it was kept to a separate topic.

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
I totally agree that there should be a new thread opened up on the food supply for fish and I think Ashley Hayden is the man for it he has already been campainingfor this through the M.S.I = https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox ... FtgzNGcWhW The more pressure we put as anglers to these people the better our seas will be protected.Check out the work Ashley has been doing so far and he needs the help of all of us anglers.= search.php?author_id=2148&sr=posts

Re: SOUTH COAST COD 2018
Does the Quay enter they load/ unload timber behind the carpet factory (I think) still throw up a few fish? I'm hoping to get back to it after taking the year off for surgery. Uneven ground like sand and gravel etc is still off limits for me so something like the Quay would be perfect. Thanks

Use, https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/ho ... 2.0/zoom:9 zoom into Youghal and click on the anchor icon. You can check on the drop down menu. I'm not sure how accurate it is and it do not guarantee that the gates will be open.

You could also fish Green Park aka the Bandstand, opposite the Walter Raleigh hotel.
