Smoothhounds

#1 Post by seank »

I might be moving to Waterford in a few weeks for work.

I've never caught a smoothhound, and I'd love too target them.

How long do they wait around for does anybody know?
Target for 2017: Tope, Bass, Specimen shore pollack, Specimen Sea trout, Turbot over 30cm, common skate
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

I've caught them in Wexford in September Sean.

How long will you be in Waterford for?

Be a long term move hope to be down there a few years all going well :)

Have been down few times already in last month. Fished dunmore east a few weeks back caught dabs and dogs. Seen a report somewhere of a smoothy being lost on dunmore pier last month. At night

I've heard of people getting them off Tramore strand, and in spots in the Waterford Estuary, and recently, around Hook Head.

iv caught them at distance and reasonably close in..bear in mind, as with alot of estuary there is a ferocious pull on the tide and at times a short cast can be all you will get away with
