Re: wrasse being targeted by .... salmon farmers
Without reading the full article as TL:DR the idea seems a good one if you can manage the stocks of wrasse - Unless I missed a very important bit....
I always wondered why a natural solution to sea lice couldnt be found. If wrasse feed on sealice, then cultivate a thriving wrasse population - Less lice, less chemicals, less harm to fish, less harm to humans, cheaper healthier fish etc etc etc
Although I dont like the idea of farms in the first place - I just think a sustainable style of this method would be a massive improvement!
If I did miss an important bit ignore all the above

Re: wrasse being targeted by .... salmon farmers
the important bit is that the entire ocean is being denuded of wrasse to satisfy the farmers and the wrasse are left to die after they have eaten the lice since there is no natural food for the 20 million tons of wrasse being captured and shipped in Norway alone to do this...

Re: wrasse being targeted by .... salmon farmers
even if you find a "natural" solution to the lice, what about the amoebic gill disease or the next disease that comes up
its a very sick industry and this is just more noise in my opinion - it all comes back to the original problem, why dont we eat the wild fish used for feed and 2/3 of it would still be swimming in the ocean instead of going into salmon biomass

Re: wrasse being targeted by .... salmon farmers
Surely the wrasse would have to be alive when shipped to Norway how is this happening and what blind eyes are turning in the E.U, to allow this
I have not fished in two years hoping to change that this year with anything ?
