Wind direction

Lads does anyone know what the wind direction needs to be in order to create some surf in the sea on the east coast (North Dublin)

Would it be offshore west wind towards the sea?

Something I've noticed about a certain mark I fish, that it produces better when the surf is present!

Offshore winds (in this case westerly) generally flatten out the sea close to land, and an onshore wind will generally create waves. A swell will always produce the best surf, and this is most likely along our Atlantic coats. At this time of year, particularly after a blow, you can get a swell in the Irish sea, and this can produce nice surf conditions for fishing. It's hard to predict though. An onshore wind will certainly create some wave activity, but too much and it can be difficult to fish into, and it can bring weed with it.

East coast beaches don't take long to "sand up" - you'd only have a narrow window.

In general, easterlies in Winter denote an extremely cold weather pattern, originating from Siberia. However, the same wind direction in late Spring/Summer usually means settled weather

North Co Dublin fishes best on a south easterly but as said if too strong makes life difficult.
