Henrys?

Hi again... just wondering how safe the area around Henrys in dublin is?
Have had some v. unpleasent experiences aound Croke park/mntJoy area a few times but is this area between O' Connell st and the shop generaly safer?

How long would it take to walk from O'Connell st? Just want to be sure

, would be on thursday morning

Col I worked around Ballybough, where Henrys is for about five years and I never had a days bother. Yes the area has a bad name but most of the people are sound. I suppose the walk out from town could seem a bit dodgy if you don't know the area but you'll be fine. You have as much chance of something happening walking down any street in Ireland. The Ballybough and Summerhill area has just kept a bad which it gained for itself years ago. Now thats when it was rough!!!

Col,

IMO its safe around Henry's, either on the main drag or even the side street next to the garage. Not so easy to get parked at the new Southside shop though, I've only been to the new shop once and I had to park a good distance from the shop, down a little side street that didnt look very busy.

As for choice of shore gear, they are both good shops IMO but I'd be surprised if Henry didnt have what you wanted.

No! Henry's is Northside, Southside angling is on the southside, roysh!

Figured it would be grand aswell, shouldn't be a probleme so I'l head in, southside is a bit too far away

It is as safe as any GAA ground in Wcklow.......unless you are a ref then Croke Parkis safer

Hiya,
I'm a southsider that migrated north and live in Drumcondra. The area around Henrys is fine. If you're coming by Dart you can get off at connolly station, walk up amiens street to the 5 lamps, turn left up Portland row and take the right at the top of the hill. This will bring you to Henrys
If you're in town you could try ABC which is off Capel Street. Cant remember the name of the street but the luas runs along it and the Boars head pub is on th corner.

ABC tackle is in Mary's Abbey just off Capel Street.If you are going to Southside Angling there is a lot of parking in the housing estate behind the shop or paid parking on Cork street itself.

Someone threw a mountain bike at me from the top of a block of flats in Ballybough!!
(It was about 3 in the morning though!) Should be fine during the day.

You have got to be kidding me? Or are you serious! ABC is one of the most expensive places in Ireland to buy gear, and has a poor selection of stuff.

Henry's is a million times better, and the people that work there actually fish....

ABC - would ya stop. In fairness to Henry's he has everything and if he does not have it on display he still has it!

ABC is expansive and not a great shop to boot.

Henry's is decent enough I suppose, try to deal with Henry if you can, Pat (long haired bloke constantly outside the shop smoking) is pretty bad when it comes to.......well......anything. He'll sell you a 525 and tell you only to use it when float fishing.

Henry's prices can often be a bit much, which leads me to go elsewhere, but sometimes he can do a deal with you.

Fairview Tackle isnt bad, prices are better but gear is limited, possibly due to the fact they can only fit 2 Okuma Axeon reels in the shop, then its packed. Bait is cheaper than Henry's.

Southside Tackle have everything. Moved to a newer bigger shop but its even less accessible than the last! You could park in the bus stop before, now i dont know where to park around the new place. Prices arent bad, not great for bait, ive found. One of the few shops that will tell you that the rag is out of season.
