Good Winter Jacket

#1 Post by dexs7 »

Alright lads,

I'm looking for a good reliable water proof jacket for winter fishing. Waterproof is the main thing as I can use extra layers under depending on temperature. The problem I have had with other Jackets is the zips seem to seize up due to the salt water. Saying that many just kept water out for a while but after long periods of rain they seem to eventually let the water in. Any opinions, I dont like very bulky jackets. Also breathable would be preferred. Cheers

I use two piece sundridge floatation suit. Comfortable and really very warm
My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Hi Dec if u want a no nonsense roomy waterproof have a look at Climb8 an Irish company. Smocks at 30 odd euro. Waterproof and bombproof. Plenty room to layer up underneath but not breathable. I have one for digging bait and one for fishing. Can machine wash and roll them up. Can't fault them and I've had them all out there.

Thanks folks. Some good info there. Ill get a chance to do more research next week. I also had my eye on the link below but not sure if its up to the hacking a jacket gets when fishing with regards to salt water effecting zips, and boxes being dragged on your back, general bending and stretcing when digging etc. I dont mind spending the money once I got a few years out of it.

Don't think that'd be the warmest dexs, grand for digging on clean ground when your keeping yourself warm with the fork but for a winter night baiting up peelers you'll freeze. Have a look at an imax, I have the imax coast, great smock, it has neoprene cuffs with a rachet fastener to seal the wrist which keeps water seeping into your sleeve padding, that sucks the heat of a lad fairly quick. Fully waterproof and has fleeced hip pockets. https://www.google.ie/search?q=imax+jac ... rXKAnCM%3A

Another vote for the imax coastal smock.Super warm& can handle a bit of wet stuff.Just remember if your getting one I'd opt for a size up on normal size.
