Whats the done thing after fishing say on a sand beach, do people wash down rod/reel at home or say WD40 or anything like that?

Waders, boots. rod. reel and lures go into the shower after every session.
It does prolong them, although you might get a bit of guff of the other half!

Do not put WD40 on any reel; it dissolves the grease inside the reel. Use 3 in 1 oil if you are going to oil the reel and generally a rinse under the shower after use is a handy way to maintain gear.

Yup rinse your reels rods and waders with fresh water and leave to dry is all you need to do. If you decide to keep your rigs after a session rinse them as well and spray with WD40
