Sligo Holiday

#1 Post by DavidCostello »

Hi all

I'm heading to Sligo in July and will be sneaking some fishing gear into the car. Looking on the web and Mullaghmore seem to be the only place I can find that might be worth a go.

Any Advise would be much appreciated.

Bait is the main reason I'm posting. Due to Laziness and lack of space for a fork in the car with the 2 kids I'm wondering is there a Bait shop in or around Sligo?

Regards
David

I'll be back by July so keep us posted on how you get on...

Mullaghmore is ok, not great, recall being ate alive by the midges fishing the beach one year.

I also fished the other beach - facing south west - its a bit of trek from the Cliffony road. Remember getting some nice flats (flounder) further up towards the point in a surprisingly deep channel between it and some shoals (check the maps). I remember being surprised at the violence of the sea surging through...

Must be good rough ground fishing for wrasse and maybe Pollack in any white water- and if you trek all the way down you hit the channel that feeds the massive lagoon in behind Streedagh. Big tidal race - sea trout country.

Hope that helps...

Didn't get a chance to fish behind Streedagh in the massive lagoon but go a nice Flounder on the beach itself.
Really lovely part of the country.

Hi David, nice sized flounder there. We have stayed in Sligo a few times and I've spun and lure fished there and had a few small pollock, saw quite a few mullet around Strandhill but didn't fish for them. Must pack the bait gear and have a go for the flatties next time!
