You're coming all the way over here and you don't want to go after bass. Fair enough. To each his own.

That rod should be good for in close ledgering for bass in calm conditions from the beaches. Should also be good for plugging. I use a carp rod as an all rounder for exactly this type of bass fishing. I've never caught pollock of that kind of size in 20 years here, but then I've never really fished for them.
