Going cod fishing tonight, high tide is at 11 so hope to be fishing for 7. I am heading not far from rosslare if anyone wants to come with. Have heard decent reports of good catches this week on the beach I am heading to.
Not done this before but have caught Cod when I didnt know what I was doing but just looking for some advice.
In the bag I have squid, mussels, frozen lug (not good condition) and frozen crab. Anything else I will want?
Rig wise what should I be using?
As far out as my little arms will throw?
Any tips of the trade very welcome.

Re: 1st Cod Session
Pulley rigs for bigger cod I also find 3 hook flapper works well had a few 5 pound fish this way. You also can't beat getting fresh lug on hooks this time of year. Hope this helps tight lines hope you get a good session.

Re: 1st Cod Session
Hey
Went to tacumshane in wexford. The dogs were in and had 4. I was going to get some fresh rag and lug in rosslare but there was none available unfortunately and the lug I had was gone so just had the frozen baits mentioned.
A nice enough night with reasonable conditions but unfortunately nothing on target.
I still feel the bait let me down. Still bass in the area and I was a bit miffed over it but I will head down to Balinoulart and castletown now Sunday and Monday for another bang at it!

Re: 1st Cod Session
Keep at it, you're right regarding your bait, if your targeting cod you can't beat fresh lug, mussel and peelers. Stick at those beaches west of rosslare, they throw up good fish every year.

Thanks - I keep wondering am I too late for bass and too early for cod but reports contradict that theory. Its a pity because I was down in good time for a change and well set up other than the bait - Oh wellbasshunter10 wrote:Keep at it, you're right regarding your bait, if your targeting cod you can't beat fresh lug, mussel and peelers. Good to know I have the locations right at least. I have only been to st helens other than that beach so any other marks you have in the area are very much appreciated!
