Crosshaven, Fountainstown, Myrtleville cod?

#1 Post by rock hopper »

I was thinking about checking rock marks around Cork for winter cod fishing this year. Did anyone have any luck around Cork? I'm thinkng about the shore between Camden fort and Fountainstown. If you have any suggestion which will help me avoid wasting my time I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

I've fished all along those rocks but never for cod so no sure but with monkstown wall being so prolific for cod I think there could be lots of marks overlooked . I think any new mark is worth trying out and if it doesn't work out its only a short drive from there up to monkstown so nothing lost and you might stumble along something a bit special

Used to get them of the pier at Camden years ago but there is no access there now and as stated above De wall is hard to beat when there is fish around.
Beyond Grab-all bay and all the way down to Myrtleville there is plenty of rock our in front if you and it would not take too long to empty your trace wallet. If you are based on that side of the harbour the Fountainstown area can be a nice spot for a night session during the winter for a few dogs and whiting.
Specimen Fish 2024: Shore Rockling (3) 36cm, 34cm, 31cm; Thick Lipped Mullet (2) 58cm, 57cm; Smooth Hound (1) 109cm; Sting Ray (1)125cm; Ballan Wrasse (1) 48cm ; Corkwing Wrasse (1) 24.8cm. Golden Grey Mullet (2) 43cm, 1.8lb; 40.6cm, 1.55lb;
Total species boat/shore: 45

Fountainstown is near enough to me I must give it a go. What are the best baits?

Mackerel and sand eel will get the whiting, dogs and the odd thornback.
You'll dig lug on the inner side of the spit. Best fished into darkness
