Thinking of buying either a Penn affinity or akios scora 80 for beach fishing, to accompany a long continental style rod.
Does any body own either of these reels and can tell me which would be better? A lot of hype about akios these days. Just want to find out whether I should believe it or not
Thanks
Sean.
Target for 2017: Tope, Bass, Specimen shore pollack, Specimen Sea trout, Turbot over 30cm, common skate
I own the Scora, I'm ultra careful with my gear. I had to get the reel repaired after a year, sent it back to Akios. Communication had a lot to be desired. The reel would struggle upon retrieval, you could here it straining with any weight attached. A clicking noise ( sorry not an exact technical description).
They repaired it free of charge even though the warranty had expired, after six months of usage the same problem occurred. Looks the biz, and when it worked was hard to fault.

Perhaps I was just unlucky.
It certainly looks the biz graeme pullen uses it in his videos a lot. Akios have a lot of support from the British. but your experience is enough to put me off it. Just read a similar story there..
Think I'm going to go for the affinity ")

I've 2 penn affinity 7000 best reels ever both bit expensive but well worth it. I use tubertini f1 Metallica 3000 loaded with 30lb braid will cast over 100 yards easy. I've had large smoothound, bass and handles really well. Drag is really smooth. Have had them over a year now and never a bit of trouble. Hope this helps
Iv penn affinity since they first came out so few years now still going strong wouldnt class them as expensive can be got fairly cheap now if you browse the net
