Youghal....Help !

#1 Post by highwatermark »

Hello All, I'm seeking some guidance and assistance.....nothing more.......from the membership please.
Thinking of heading to Youghal towards the weekend for a 24/36 hour session and having never fished it before I need some guidance. Its a 5 1/2 hour, 500Km round trip which is no bother if there is any liklihood of catching........anything, altho a cod r codling would be great. I fish solely for pleasure and all my fish go back the way they came out for the next angler to catch....so everything is catch and release. (my own humble view on the matter).

So my questions are:

1. Ferrypoint or Claycastle Beach ?

2. If Ferrypoint.....should I be casting up the estuary landward, down the estuary seaward or across the estuary towards Youghal ?

3. The above two locations are obviously well known and easily viewed on Google maps etc. Is there anywhere else offering ease of access, parking adjacent etc which anyone cares to share.

As you see I have no idea of the place but have read and followed the threads on it here extensively and being Dublin based you will probably all know what my fishing is like here

Once again I am not looking for personal marks or anything like that, just general pointers on the location so that I'm not shooting myself in the foot before I even arrive and wasting a lot of diesel !

Many thanks to all

1. Ferrypoint, day or night. Claycastle, night only

2. Fish across the estuary towards Youghal is best.

3. Green Park aka the bandstand, it's across from the Walter Raleigh hotel. Green's Quay aka the carpets. Both day/night venues.
The Abbey, At the bridge take the L2004 road for about a mile there is an old ruin with parking. 2 minute walk to the river.
Daytime venue, it will fish also at night if you don't mind 7.36 million rats gnawing at your booth

Hi Donal,

Just starting back fishing again after many years but first time sea fishing. As you mentioned the green park in Youghal is a good area, what I want to know is it bait fishing. if so what type of bait is popular there and what would I expect to catch there this time of year and is it a sandy bottom or weedy.

Thanks in advance.
