Squid Howth harbour

#1 Post by martin435 »

Hi all

Wondering if there was any chance of catching squid just outside the harbour on a boat at nite with a spotlight on the water with squid jigs.

I remember seeing some post about some being caught from skerries.

Is it even worth a go?

Try it it's simple if there there, just look for a well lit area cast out till the lure hits bottom ,you can fish the squid jigs on a paternoster with a weight on the bottom (depending on the depth),use big slow sink and draw taking in small amounts of line at a time ,if ther is squid there it won't take long to get a hit ,just wind in your slack don't strike and keep constant pressure on them, and if ye do get any keep them on the surface for a few seconds before ye lift em so they will spray the ink in the water instead of on you and the pier, the slower the current the better keep to the slack areas, you could also use white glow sticks in a jam jar with paper in it ,tie a bit of line around it and anchor it a few feet of the bottem, keep casting wherever ye threw the light in,hope this helps
