Thinking of a trip

#1 Post by ardinn »

Down to wexford over the next few days - Looking Primarily for bass or Smoothie.

Have not fished this time of year before so was wondering a few things.

I can head to Kilgorman/castletown, kilmucridge, or other spots if anyone wants to share some good locations.
Is dawn and dusk still primetime? Never Caught a smoothie before so when do they appear - what size are the at the moment, some people saying only pups about.

Going to be using crab lug and rag - probably a mussel cocktail of them all and some squid. Any other suggestions?

Any other advise appreciated

Thanks

I went down to rosslare tonight for a look (van full of gear - but I was on a scout mission!!!)

Went to rosslare point to see what the crab situation was like as I cannot get any anywhere!! First bit of sand i have seen razors on, just shells but still should be a few about - crab situation looks good too and loads of worm casts so I will do my first dig tomorrow i think and might make up a crab trap and bring salt for the razor - So tomorrow will be my first bait and fish hunt.

Anyone any outside the box tips for me on that actually??

Fishing down on the point will be very difficult with the current tides. Still a little weed about too which will compound the problem. Heavy grip leads and stout gear will be the order of the day.

In reality the point hasn't been fishing well recently.

There are no peeler crabs at the moment but good frozen or hard backed ones may account for something.

Funnily enough I've never found razor fish massively effective in Rosslare despite the fact the farms are less than a mile off shore.

Feel free to pm me if you want any more info.
