Galway Bay, 24/02/15

People: me fein

Duration: 20.00 to 23.00

Tide: high at 21.30

Weather: windy with horizontal rain at times

Bait: maddies and mac, razor

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: lots of flounders 1 white trout

Report: was told i needed my head examined heading out last night - i fully expected a blank, possibly with piles of weed after the storm monday with a few lost leads and line for good measure

got down to the mark and lovely tables of surf coming in - on closer inspection - no obvious weed - game on

first cast on the flapper tea bag flounder - and so it went
the odd one in the 20s

the maddies still kicking 3 weeks since the fishoffs - no weed really, but plenty of stones/gravel moving with the sea - had the other rod out with the razor incase a lost silver fella turned up - no joy there

the flounders stopped nibblin at hw and as it was turning could see a def bite between the swells - heart wanted a spiny one - head knew it was the other fellas - still not to be sniffed at 37cm - first of the year

as it started to ebb properly the flounder came back - got one in to 27cm no higher and alas the maddies ran out - im sure if i stayed on the flounder would have kept biting for a good while

i was getting cold with the damp at this stage - some craic with bits of gravel getting chucked onto the road - i was packing up and the tripod was out still and a genious walking by asked was i an astronomer - this is one of the best yet - you could barley look up as the cloud had come down to us

one of those sessions where i felt very alive out and about - and probably as good a session gets round galway this time of year
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC
