Southwest Kerry

#1 Post by beechtrawler »

People:Moi

Duration:05:30hrs to 11:30hrs Saturday 14th.

Tide:Low tide at 11:30hrs

Weather: very calm and sunny.

Bait:dublin's finest dug lugworn and tipped off with the chinese imprium's finest squid

Rigs: pennel pulley and a two hook flapper.

Results: one bass and two flounder.

Report:Arrived down on friday evening, i would usually be out fishing for a few hours that night however i had other duties to attend to, specifically painting a renovated room which reduced my fishing over the weekend. The alarm clock woke me, i got the food into the belly, had the gear all ready for fishing and off i drove full of aniticpation as you do, where i park you cannot see the sea however the sound of the sea can be a tell tail sign of what the surf or lack of is like which in this case suggested a good surf rolling in which turned out to be the case, in saying that you don't need much of a surf in this location if your fishing in night time to catch fish in my opinion.
There was not a puff of wind all morning, yet there was a lovely surf rolling in, i set up the two rods, two new supercast 13fters that i got from Henry's and cast out at 05:30hrs hopefull as ever, second cast i had that distinctive bass knock knock on one rod, reeled in a 50 cm bass weighing just over 3lb, which i though was the start of things to come however no more bass were prepared to make an appearance during the session, i caught two flounder each approx 30cm in length before 07:00hrs after which i got neither a bite nor fish, all three fish were taken on the end hook of the flapper
