Its not fishing!!

Some may already know this, or like me, some may get a surprise by it.

I was talking to Ian Golds earlier on the phone, he mentioned a German wholesaler who is one of his customers, after a comment I made he told me this.....

About 10 years ago the Germans had a hung government and had to let the Green Party have more say in the workings of the country. One of the first things they tried to do was BAN ANGLING, full stop! they weren't allowed all their own way but for the past 10 years or so, its illegal to fish for pleasure in Germany, you can fish for the table, but if your caught putting a size fish back into the water, you will be prosecuted. They no longer have any fishing clubs or international teams that fish on any German shoreline, its illegal. The German EFSA had to hold their championships in Denmark because of this. Can you believe it!!

One of the things the Green Party said about returned fish "they have been caused stress and as such its not right to return them in that condition" It still hasn't sunk in for me yet.....WTF do these people think they're doing, it could happen anywhere in Europe if it happened in Germany, the Green Party will just sit it out and wait for the opportunity to do whatever they think fit.

I would like to think all this is twaddle, I would probably not have believed it if anyone other than Goldsy told me...like I said, it hasn't sunk in yet.

Please!! someone chip in and say its not true

Having a reasonable reason to fish is the key in order to avoid getting into trouble with the Animal Welfare Act. What is a reasonable reason? In the case of recreational fishing this reason may be: The use of the caught fish for personal consumption, or as a second reason might be the management of fish populations for ecological reasons. No other reason is at the moment considered "reasonable" in Germany. Fishing for fun or competition is definitely NOT a reasonable reason and therefore illegal in Germany!

Good find mate...well done.

Does this not make you ask the question WTF was EFSA doing when all of this was being passed Never mind the fact that they got away with doing it....how come most of us anglers don't even know about, or even the angling trade for that matter.....as far as the Green Party goes it'll be classed as a work in progress its not on IMHO
