Lets put it to you this way a very good friend of mine who lives within 1 minute of the wall has been doing all his fishing recently in east cork in search of the elusive cod.Plenty small stuff along the wall and the odd decent whitting.The good thing though is if you want a bit of peace and quiet its the place to be :lol:

How are things at the moment down the wall. Were getting a few codling up in Dublin this year but not as big as the cork cod.
Wish list for 2015: sword tail, black Molly, horny cobbler

and we're get a few smooth hounds down here 8) :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Fished it Friday for about 2 hours, biggest was about 3lb, blanked only on two casts. There was a few whiting caught also. I didn't see any East coast size fish caught. :D :D
Youghal is throwing up a better size fish at the moment.

Hi Donal, thanks for the great info. Just a couple of questions about weights: do you use grippers or not? Obviously more prone to snagging but maybe you need them to hold in the tide?

Also what's the lightest lead you'll get away with?

Myself and mates were using 6+7oz grip weights last time they held bottom but were dragged through the current until they actually hit bottom after casting.

You would want a extremely neap tide to be able to fish there for the full length of the flood.
When the tide starts to pull your lead along it is time to head home. Just too many tangles if there is a few anglers there. If you do want to stick it out then go to the left hand corner of the grassy patch.

6oz grip lead and a pulley rig are my rig of choice and reel in as fast as you can.

Wow, having fished there last week, you really do need to reel in fast- if you don't you're toast!
