Hi all, first time on here.
Whilst out on the boat at Killybegs yesterday we caught the fish below.
Can anyone identify this?

there was a time up that way when they were in their millions.
SCAD Trachurus trachurus M.
Ir. Scadan carraige; Fr. Saurel; Ge. Bastardmakrele; Du. Horsmackreel; It. Suro,
Sugarello; Sp. Jurele..
Shape somewhat like a mackerel, but body more compressed. First
dorsal short, spiny, second dorsal and anal long, with two spines
in front of the anal. Tail-fin deeply forked; pectorals long and pointed.
Lateral line, with keeled plates, conspicuous and spiny posteriorly.
Blue green above, steel blue on sides. Grows to about 3 lb.
A must for any angler to download and save

Got a big one of these in sligo last weekend, Put it back because it was the first time I ever seen one.

We were out on a charter yesterday in Galway and there was 10-15 of them caught between us. My first time to see them as well.

We caught lots last year up here in donegal...hopefully we'll get a few this year too

A DD says they used to be all over the west coast this time of year back in the 70s/80s. A fine fish from all aspects, be great if they're making a comeback but they'll hardly get the chance...
