Hi Everyone.
I went digging for lugworm today and after watching a lot of videos and reading guides i felt very confident, However i was mistake.
I went to Rossbeigh and dug at the back beach. The whole beach was covered in casts so i taught i had struck gold. However after digging around the casts for 10 minutes I noticed that the Lugworms were tiny. They varied from 1.3 to 3cm.
There was no point in taking them. Looking at all the guides I taught i should have looked for the casting then the blow hole and dig that. Is it a bad time of year for digging or should i have went to the pink points on the map instead of the red points in the hope of getting bigger lugs . Or maybe i was digging a different type of worm?

Re: Small Lugworm
It's a good time to dig them and yes they are in a U shaped tube in between the cast and the hole , they might still be deep and maybe two spades deep . The beach I'm digging them on they are 1.5 forks deep and an average size around 6 to 8 inches with the odd belter every now and again . You should be able to get some more accurate information tomorrow as with the details of what beach and where to did half of Ireland will be digging on there tomorrow !!

Re: Small Lugworm
Thanks Morgan.
I was not going down too deep so that could be the problem i will try again soon. The beach I went digging on is listed in all the Guides for fishing in Kerry so its not too much of a secret
otherwise i would hve felt pretty stupid
I was at another beach recently not marked and although it was harder to find them when i did they were pretty big.

That's great , in the hight of the summer they are not deep at all , different beaches and conditions they will be at different depths , trial and error I'm afraid but it certainly keeps you fit .
