Reel <= €50, Shimano CATANA FC or are there better options?

#1 Post by Schmintan »

My younger brother is getting into fishing, but has only a broken old rod and reel. He is into plug fishing for pike with the occasional outing to the sea for bass.
Im getting him a new rod & reel, but as he can be a bit rough with equipment, Im not giving him anything too expensive until he proves he can look after this!

For the Rod im going with the SHIMANO VENGEANCE SEA BASS 240H 8FT. Should do nicely for both Bass & Pike.

For the reel, i want to keep it under 50 euro so that rules out the Shimano Exage. I was thinking of the Shimano CATANA FC (link below). I dont have any experience with this, but would it be a decent reel for a young chap starting out on a budget or are there better options?
