Is this a good sized turbot?
Was out the last evening and the guy fishing along with caught this on a mackerel strip...every other one ive ever caught or seen were tiny and could fit in the palm of my hand......I didn't even know these were catchable at our mark!...

Looks good maybe a pound or over but hard to tell fair play always good to get what u dont expect

It was plump!..and about 30cm from head to tail

Nice catch. It would be considered a good size Turbot from the shore although they can grow much bigger. I've yet to get one bigger than 20cm!

Donegal is a good spot for turbot, one of the few decent places to target them from the shore in Ireland
despite it being a very decent catch from the shore, it certainly isn't a big turbot in general. sorry to burst your bubble..
it hasn't even reached maturity yet (which occurs at approx 49cm) and so its still a juvenile fish. these fish can reach 100cm in length and weigh 30 and 40lb! this wee guy is maybe 1lb or just over it
i'd still be very happy with it from the shore, for sure. it is a very nice fish and very few people would get one like that in a lifetime from the shore

Yea I've seen photos of much larger ones but I must stress that i didn't catch it, it was the guy I was fishing with....
