Jig hook size and weight for shore fishing for Bass

#1 Post by Schmintan »

I know it varies depending on depth, conditions etc, but in general, whats the most common jig hook size and weight you use when fishing jellies for bass around Ireland?

Varies hugely Schmintan depending on a variety of factors that you just mentioned and more, but for me by far the most common would be the 5g bullet head leads or a 5.4g size jig head.

Sorry Schmintan i forgot to mention the hook size. Most common for me would be 2/0 & 3/0 which i usually use with the 140mm Savage gear sandeel slug.

Bassy Tom do you do much shore fishing around Waterford or do you travel for this. Its the one thing I'm currently trying to figure out is where the good spots between Waterford and Dungarvan.

Also is Bunmahon any good for shore fishing?

You wont get any specif info off anyone on their favourite Bass spots, but Tramore to Dungarvan has some excellent ground for Bass fishing. The best thing to do is pick out some likely spots... ( Loads of shallow rock ) and fish it as often as you can. Dull days are best along with Dawn and Dusk. If your time is limited try fish around the new and full moons to better your chances, but to be honest when the Bass are in and feeding you'll know :)

No need to travel you're on one of the best stretches of coast in the country for bass!
