Waterford Wrasse 15/06/14

#1 Post by Bassy Tom »

People:Me and 2 friends

Duration:3hrs

Tide:2 hrs before 7 1 hr after High Tide

Weather:Calm & Bright

Bait:SPs

Rigs:Weedless

Results:3 Wrasse

Report:Decided to head out for a few wrasse at a local mark i favor. I got some samples of Z-man soft plastic lures and decided to try them out. i had heard they were working very out west. I had a few other SPs in the bag that i tried first without success. Then i clipped on the Z-man crab, cast out 2 or 3 very slow turns of the handle and hooked into a 35cm Wrasse. Not a huge wrasse but a good fight all the same.

Things went quiet for me after that for an hour so i changed over to my good old weedless savage gear sandeel slug. It counted for two more fish 34cm and 45cm for me i relatively quick succession before i decided it was time to pack up and go home. All in all a very enjoyable early morning session.

Hi Tom, is High tide best time for Wrasse..? really want to try my hand at this. High tide not so good for Bass where I fish so this would be a nice alternative. I believe a calm and suuny day is good too..?

Wrasse have some power in them when they explode line off the reel.

High tide is best and you are spot on, in calm waether. It dosnt need to be sunny though, i have had more luck in dull conditions, but it does help with the tan.

You are dead right there Deise, i had some scrap off the 45cm fish, he was stripping line and all and i had the drag set for about a 4lb fish. He wanst that weight but the fight made him feel a lot bigger.

Excellent plan. Keeps The mind thinking over of tactics.
