Digging for sand eels
Hi I'm a new poster on these boards and freely admit to knowing little or nothing about sea angling. I have fished the Friary at Ards near Creeshlough for sea trout and whilst there have noticed on occaisions people digging for sand eels,so is this o.k [legal] and if so can eels be found on any of the Down or Antrim beaches. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

You'll get sandeels on just about any beach. And as far as digging etc for them goes, it's legal. In some areas you may need a permit to use a seine net to catch sandeels, but digging or raking is ok. Just make sure the beach you intend to use isn't in a protected are etc.
The following two links will give you more information on sandeels than any sane man would want......
