New to bass fishing.

#1 Post by TheHero »

Hi,

I started bass fishing last year around september and would like some advice and input from the more experienced bass fishers here. I aim to do both types SWFF and spinning or baiting. I have fly fished since i was 13 years old so nearly 20 years fly fishing on rivers.

When does SWFF time kick in around ireland - is there a specific time or weather you need to fly fish for bass?

For lure or baiting bass does the season run all year round excluding the may-june non fishing period.

I look forward to your input and appreciate any input given.
I fished from september to the beginning of december taking 4 bass my biggest being over 7lb mark took his picture and released was delighted to catch him and the day was very rough, i had spent an hour fishing and was just about to pack it in. Decided to move further up from where i was and have a few casts slowing my retrieve i hit into this nice bass. I have a 9ft reddington 9 WT for SWFF but have yet to use it, but aim to use it alot this year.

Rory is spot on. Jim Hendrick is a fantastic bass guide and an absloute gent, he has a ton of info on his site. You can definitely learn a lot from him. He also writes extensively about bass fishing and in particular saltwater fly fishing for bass here http://www.scribd.com/JimHendrick.

Hope this helps. Sorry i cant give you any personal input as i am a lure guy myself.

I just learned from getting out there with a mate and read up on stuff. And kept at it.
Lures all the way here also mate.
Can't fly fish ( yet )
And I get bored bait fishing.

Kind regards
