New Shore Fishin Crew.

#1 Post by Bimmer »

I have returned to shore angling this year after a long ' gap. It sparked bit of interest with the lads from work. Some of them had 'dabbled ' before...some complete novices. I gathered all my gear from cruising round web and tackle for sale section etc. Now completely kitted out again ( even brought my Tilley out of retirement) The lads, went buyin gear like good things! :) I have brought them out 5 or 6 times now...some 'interesting sights to watch them tinkering with new gear in the dark :? However.... I just haven't been able to put them on tha fish :( . I know, I know, sometimes they there, sometimes they not.... bin up and down the East coast without much sucess. I'm heading out again on Thursday night. I tryin my best to keep their interest up, ya know yourself...but if I can't get them something..I might end up on the end of someone's hook myself   Any pm's re anywhere producin' keept strictly quite. ...Heres hopin'... Cheers. :? :? :? :?

Beat me to it!

Always something knocking about and a great place to get the fishing mojo back, get catching a few fish and keep your mates interested! Bray pier worth a chuck too.
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Ah yeah  ,,,give Fishface the credit for my report  ,,,he's head is big enough already  Regarding Greystones,,,there's plenty of small fish there , with the possibility of some decent catches too. We had a couple of dozen between us on Sunday night and I had similar numbers on Saturday night. The catch is to cast close enough to the wall to hook the fish loitering about in the rocks/rough ground without getting snagged  . I cast maybe 10 yards (9.144 metres if you're fussy  ) out using small hooks,,,size 2 or 4, on a 2 hook flapper, 2 or 3 oz weight, and let the rig settle itself. If you twitch it too much it'll get snagged  . Don't worry if you go through a quiet spell,,,,fishing is like that,,,it's as if someone turns a switch on and off,,,it goes through phases and if you're there long enough you'll get them. The Pollock, pouting and codling will hammer the bait and hook themselves but the rockling and Scorpion fish will do their best to snag you in the crevices. A bit further out in the mouth of the Harbour you'll find Dabs. I make my own rigs,,, and plenty of them,, and expect to lose a few every time,,,,in fact it's a bonus if I come home with all the rigs I left home with. Tell the lads not to be downhearted if they lose a few, that's all part of the game, sure even expert's like Fishface (you know,,,,the lad that writes all those great reports featuring himself  ) lose rigs,,,and even rods and tripods on occasion  . Mackeral is a must here at this time of the year, either as a tipping bait with lug, or on it's own. You have to catch now with all that advice,,I must read it myself before I head back there. Best of luck,,,,,now I'm off to read one of Fishface's reports

The only problem with greystones pier end is any more than 4 and its overcrowded, and you can also get seasoned anglers that see the need in setting up tripods taking up more space to keep the rod tip as high as they can, instead of using the wall as a rest :? i even heard of one of these lads recently getting his rods blown over and smashing some rings in the process

That was some amount of holes you dug bright and early on sunday morning neil, you must have that little spot nearly dug out at this stage
