Could someone shed a bit of light on the lack of Codling in the Shannon Estuary from the shore?
I have never heard of them being caught bar off a boat around the Loop.
I see an old Fisheries Ireland shore angling mark guide that states they are to be had in Foynes but again I have heard this is not accurate.

Re: Shannon Estuary Codling
you have hit the nail on the head.... there is simply a lack of them. I have never heard of a reliable shore mark in Clare for them.PJKaiser wrote:Could someone shed a bit of light on the lack of Codling in the Shannon Estuary from the shore?

The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

Re: Shannon Estuary Codling
Hi Pj
Over the years we have followed wives tales and fished supposed cod marks from Clare up into the estuary, even when fishing for ray in foynes early this year I had a local lad came up to me talking about cod being caught only for him to say after a while that it 15 to 20 years ago when he saw them, never once had we a single codling from any mark

Re: Shannon Estuary Codling
Exactly, I have heard stories of them being caught off Littor Beach in the 80's - doubt it though..Conger wrote:Hi Pj

I suppose I am trying to figure out the lack of them as they are fairly plentiful around the Loop in Summertime. Whiting show up in abundance but never yet seen a cod.
Thanks for replies

Re: Shannon Estuary Codling
There being caught at the moment near tarbert somewhere i heard a whisper, not in numbers or size, also in fishing a comp in January last year there was a codling caught at beale but it was very small… I would love to get them somewhere closer to home…
