Dalkey Island

Would anyone be interested in a night out fishing on Dalkey Island, Its against council rules to camp out there but I recon your not camping if your fishing.

I would have the transport organised and a gas BBQ would be easy, lights, tents and beach shelters would have to be seaward side overnight to avoid unwanted attention.

Any interest?

There are pots all around it aswell hard to get a mark to ground fish also big tide rips

im sure you would know of more the area out there than me john with the boat but yeah as far as i remember the tide there at dalkey rips alright and very hard to hold bottom.maybe worth an effort with ligh spinning gear during the summer months

3 of us fished on the island last year for 6 hours using all type of hard and soft lures and ended with 1 mack, counted around 40 seals while we where there,maybe that was the reason we had no fish.

a winter seal cull expidition sounds better than a fishing expidition at this stage more productive too

Ive never even been on the Island, I will do a recce trip in the spring to test the idea out.

fished it 2 years ago and had some cracking wrasse using floats on light spinning gear. Lost lots of gear on the beachcasters but managed a few pollack and macks.
Id say there would be some decent conger about too as there are loads of great spots out there. If going again id target the wrasse and conger in close and leave the the casting gear at home.

I fish it a bit on the kayak. Pollock wrasse and cod are the main species I catch there. It's a tackle graveyard and the rip is fierce strong. I'd imagine there would conger as it looks ideal for them . Be careful leaving the cars around that way. Scottie had his van broken into while we were out

iv fised here, good for pollock and gurnard, you get the ocasional codling but be prepared to loose gear
