heat shrink tubing?...

howdy...
anybody know tackle shops that supply that protective heat shrink tubing for the butt end of multi rods here in cork?
i dont really buy online so any pointers greatfully recieved...

Hi Lucky,

Not sure about tackleshops but electrical supply shops stock this stuff for shrouding cables. We usually buy it in bulk but they may sell you a smaller piece to suit your needs. Try these guys.

i have an electrician friend who has offered me some but only brown,blue and the yellow with the green pinstripe,live neutral and earth..do ye buy it in different colours? and will she go straight on with the heat gun? some lads have been saying to me to use boiling water?

hi lucky,

We usually put it on with a heat gun without any damage to the cable sheathing, but i think in your case you would want to be careful with the amount of heat you apply so you dont damage he rod. You might be better off to try a little ring of it in boiling water or with a heat gun or hair dryer on a piece of plastic pipe.

hi all, the heat shrink thats used for electricall work is allot thicker and requires a lot more heat than cosmetic heat shrink so personally i wouldnt chance it on a decent rod, all sorts of shrink on ebay fairly cheap and all you really need is a hairdryer on low and take your time by the way i am a sparks using this for the bones of 20 years

fair play jacko1...i was thinking that the electrical stuff would be heavy duty alright but as the lad said above they use it alot so i was willing to try it but in light of your post it sounds a bit dodge for me to try,the last thing i want is to weaken or wharp the rod..after all i am tryin to protect it...

Big shrink is the seller on ebay
You will need a couple of mm bigger to slide it over the rod. The thing to watch is if you rods bottom section has no eyes the section might widen from the spigot to the butt so watch this if this is the case. A hair dryer does the trick when applying it or a heat gun if you have one. I used a paint stripper gun. One last thing. If your using coasters ypu might need a wider set due to the thickness of the shrink wrap. I hope this helps.
