shimano line clip- alternative use??

#1 Post by validoc »

hi,
just going through the instruction guide for one of my shimano reels and theres a hefty wee section titled 'Line Clip Disclaimer'. it describes what the line clip is for (straight forward enough) and then theres a load of legal jargon about how shimano accept no responsibility for injury or death caused by the use of the line clip for any other purpose.

maybe im missing something, but my dumbass question is - what else could you use a line clip for? :?

When carp fishing you can "fish off the clip" basically it means you clip your line in to the clip at a set distance so you hit that distance everytime usually over a baited area or feature. The fun starts when youve had your third last cast and leave not thinking about the line clip go on your next session and fire out a 2oz lead and once it hits the clip your lead and fifty yards of line are free to skull the poor unfortunate on the far bank .

gotcha, so its probably not something that's used too often for sea angling. I never would have thought of that. cheers

No id say a five or six oz lead would tear the clip clean off .

i,ve seen it used for bass fishing with 3 oz leads :!: not many people can land a bait at the same distance every cast ,not many people ground bait for bass either but i,v seen this done too with great success used with the line clip method

True enough you just need to be wary of the wear on the line from some clips.Grounbaiting is def a winner and I lot of the scourse gear can be used at sea,I can see the new surface spods becoming very popular for mullet and theres anew controller float that has a bait system too.The pikepro baitbomb looks good too for conger and the likes
