Report: After checking the forecast on Friday it was clear that myself & MM were not going to be able to launch from Cahore on Saturday with that NE blowing. A quick call to Kit Dunne and we filled the last couple of places on his boat instead. We were at anchor by about 10 o'clock and we were hitting smoothound within 10 or 15 mins, and apart from a quiet hour at the peak of the tide, it was pretty much non stop action for the day. The final tally for the boat was 1 x thornback, 1 x Huss, 1 x pup tope, some nice Grey Gurnard and somewhere over 40 smoothies up to 10lbs. There was probably 6 hounds over specimen weight, but myself and MM officially weighed in the 2 biggest back at the quay. I wouldn't harm one of these fish just to claim specimen, but Kit keeps them in a large cool box with the deckwash running through it and assured me that fish will keep in it all day. Judging by the freshness of the fish when we released them in Wicklow harbour, any doubts I had are gone. All in all a great days fishing, and some great craic had with the Rusty Hooks lads.
