I was out last Saturday around Cork harbour and out around towards the Ling rocks and didn't catch a single Mackerel.
I was out again last Monday (June Bank Holiday) and again no sign. Not even a stray one.
I took a spin around the Harbour again yesterday evening with the same result.
Is it still too early?
Is it because of overfishing?
Very strange indeed.
Where are the Mackerel gone?

Hopefully we are not reaping the rewards of the "mackerel wars" with the pharoes and Iceland.....lets just hope that the lower than usual water temps have slowed things down and shortly there will be plenty...

Re: Where are the Mackerel gone?
We got a good few in Killala Bay earlier this week, but they were all small. Water temp is still only just 13C, but it didnt seem to affect the juvenile pollock, there were swarms of them chasing dense baitfish shoals. Patience, all will be well.....
