Fenit Pier

#1 Post by paddy87 »

Just wondering if anyone is having any luck at fenit pier.
I have been there quite a few times since the start of the new year but besides a few 2 coalfish on a trip in january I have had very little success since.
I usually fish 2hrs before HW and 2hrs after for all the good it does me.
Would i be correct in saying this area fishes better in calmer conditions?

Anyone having any joy anywhere along the pier? And if so what species?
thanks in advance for any comments, advice etc.

ps.would anyone know if you are allowed to walk down to the outermost pier and fish off it?
It doesn't look like you can but every now and again i do see people out there fishing.

i have fished it a couple of times and at night too, not a smell of a fish. no conger or doggies at night which is unusual. i think u can fish the outermost pier during the day as long as u are seen to be fishing. that huge boat is there again anyway.
Always CAR! unless its a pollock...!

2012 species: Pollock, Mack, Coalfish, Gurnard, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Wrasse.
Would do anything for a bass!

Hi Paddy

I fish Fenit pier regularly. I find frozen lug is the best bait or mackerel tipped with lug. Last year I had pollock up to 4lb 6 0z on shrimp. Other species included Dab, Flounder, Red Gurnard, Common Gurnard, Garfish, Herring, Mackerel, Dogfish, Whiting, Coalfish, Pollock, Scad, Wrasse and although I did not catch them myself I saw Bass, Thornies and Underlate Ray caught. I find fishing from low water up to high tide best and 3 hours over high water for big pollock.

Saying that this year is a different story.
Its not fishing too well at present.
If you like mackerel bashing (as I do sometimes) i have only seen one caught so far !. Lots of small herring around.
Species count this year 2013
Plump flounder, Coalfish, Whiting, 2 very small codling, Pollock, Herring, Launce, Dabs.

Lugworm is by far the best bait and shrimp for bass and big pollock.

Hope that helps

tight lines
