How to store maddies ?

#1 Post by seanbah »

I just have a quick question, I dug about 150 maddies earlier on and i cleaned most the muck off them but there is a still bit on them, anyway i have a competition sunday and i was just wondering whats the best way to keep them in good condition as this is my first time keeping them for more than a day ?? Thanks :)

Rinse in sea water riddle through a small collander then leave to dry out on news paper.

Then 2 schools of thought on this. Some store them in peat but myself i throw them into dryish seaweed to color them up a bit.

Best of luck in the Comp

you wont need 150 at all sean. 50/60 will be loads. if you want a spin you can give me the rest   .

separate them roughly into 2 bundles and put in just enough water to cover them and keep in the fridge if you can. tomorrow morning, pick out any bits of muck and dead worms and drain them off. put them on a little kitchen paper to dry. ill bring a bit of peat for you and you can transfer them into it when i collect you.

If the water is clear tomorrow youll need all the maddies you can get. If the water is dirty then lug and crab will probably outfish them.

do not put the maddies in the fridge keep them in the shed in a flat container a small drop of water just enough to cover them. take them out of the water the morning of your comp and put then in newspaper to dry them off then about a hour or so later change the paper again and you should have good solid worms for your comp if you store them in the fridge when you take the out the change in tempature will make them very soft and they will burst off the hook when casting.
