Unfortunately I’m now in the market for one after an exploding DH incident.

Just wondering if anyone has one, how would they rate them in general, and I suppose in the following areas –

Bite detection
Optimum Casting weight
Can it deal with Weed?
Can you use a shock leader?
Can it comfortably cast a lead & 3 small baits far and hold out in tide?

Smashed a DH myself at the weekend.

Dont know much about the catura as I dont own one so would only be giving opinions of others.

I have one Alby and I find it great unbelievably light and slim, It has 3 tips but I have only ever used the stiffest one which is soft enough, The bite detection is unreal and it will cast a buch of maddies without exploding them with ease,
I have always used a shockleader with it a tapered mitchell one I think it goes from 0.22 - 0.40, Downside is you cannot really go above the stated casting weight ( forget about 5 oz) and while is exellent for casting soft baits its certainly not a casting tool. Your more than welcome to take a loan of mine to see if you like it.

Thanks for the feedback lads, all reviews point to it being a great rod, but €270 for a rod that will only be used for flicking 3oz in a clear sea is a lot, although it covers most east coast match scenarios!

What about the poetica?

is the tip soft enough for the close in stuff and it's rated to 250gram & from what I've heard and seen it thumps a lead out there?

I have one of these but i havent really had it out fishing yet and when i did the conditions were not ideal. no problem casting a 4 ounce lead with it but as mentioned above i wouldnt go above that. i have been using the sniff tip also with a 40 lb leader tied to 10 lb main no issue with the leader knot.

woodies are selling a rod now with three tips also if you dont want to fork out the money on the cattura have a look at that haha.

have you had a look at the trabucco xandria 14 foot twin tip cast up to 100g perect for the maddies in the gutter plus is the same size as the cattura in dimater and only cost 140. i know john in waterford angling has then and harry in belfast angling worth a look as it wont break the bank and it is well built.

I have the 5 meter one. Casting 4 oz and bait no problem. To keep maddies intact cast more overhead and not out to side. Bite detection is very good even when tip is bent into the tide. It's alot stronger than it looks and feels. I have used 5oz grip leads at the Jimmy Smith in enniscrone and it held out ok. It,s not great with weed or casting into a strong headwind, but what quiver tip rod is? I use tapered leader and tapered line. Great eastcoast scratching rod.
