Hi there,

You need a salmon/seatrout licence if targetting seatrout, be it from the river bank or the sea shore.

You can get a national lcence for 100euro or a regional licence for 56euro I think.

As regards bass, there is a minimum landing size of 40cm. You cant keep anything under that size and also a bag limit of 2 bass in any 24hour period. There is also a closed season on bass from the 15th of May to the 15th of June inclusive where you may not fish for them.

Some people think its ok to catch them during this period if they are putting them back but that is not the case. The idea is not to target them during this time.

Hope this helps,

Sean.

I believe there is now also a daily bag limit of 3 sea trout under 40cms. Sea trout over 40 cms must be tagged if retained and local bag limits apply for these according to the time of year. This is both for freshwater and sea caught fish.
