Very Dry Spell- Waterford

#1 Post by keithg »

Hi all. I'm having a wicked turn of luck lately. I haven't been catching anything at all at any of my usual marks. I'm starting to get frustrated and I even thought about going to a stocked lake just to see what it was like to catch a fish again haha I'm going out again this evening. I've used every bait I could find on every different rig. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong/different. I'm looking to try out a new mark this evening to see if I can change my luck. If anyone could pm any local marks close to Waterford or any helpful tips in general it would be more than greatfully appreciated.

Hi KeithG,

first thing I would do is call into Waterford Outdoor Angling to confirm what you are doing is right and for the right species you're after.
The lads in there will bring you up to speed on all you need to know / have do etc to help your cause no end.

Once armed with current info and a target venue from the lads who know you'll be catching in no time!

Good Luck.

That's the thing I'm not doing anything different. I'm still using the same rigs/bait. I mean I can't even catch a dogfish anymore haha

Yeah, I'll be calling into the lads anyway. I'll be asking if there's anywhere fishing well. Thanks for the reply.

Its due to the low water temperature, much lower than normal for the time of year.

Normally I have found March and April excellent for beach fishing - much better than the summer with bass on the feed before the spawning starts, flounder feeding after spawn and usually still plenty of coalfish around. But this year the cold water has delayed everything - although its beginning to pick up now that there has been a change to southwesternly/southerly winds. Saturday night I had 3 bass, 5 coalfish, 4 flounder and 5 rocklings, last time I was fishing a month before I blanked.

Have to agree with you ,looking back at my diarys over the last 2 years I had plenty of catches of several species but I haven't had a touch so far this year.Would it have anything to do with the fact that the seasons pushed so far forward last year ?,I had mackerel on the 10 December.
