I was talking to a guy in work that dives and he tells me that when he comes across dogfish they stay put when their poked and that hes grabbed them and they haven't even made the effort to squirm away. No wonder they don't give up a fight.

Hi
Excellent skate bait down in Newport - Mary Tyler Moore would swear by them if she weren't a lady! They are also remarkably good to eat but a bugger to prepare... anyone interested, send me a PM...
Saved me from many a blank too, long ago, especially around Howth!
Now coalfish seem to be doing me the same favour...
Slightly OT, but what species do people think fight the hardest?

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...
2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

yes their called rock salmon in the fishmongers. I belive they have to be skined as soon as possible. Sounds like alot of hassle. I'd gladly eat some of Kieran's coalies and even the small coalfish give good account of themselves on light tackle.

I was correct,

To make things worse, at a party two fields away, some bloody fool was playing that crap song

Smiling away to myself here - I thought that I was the only one who referred to her as Mary Tyler Moore!
