Wicklow Head

Alright fellas,

I constantly drive by the head on my way to catch palm sized flats in Wexford, so was thinking of giving it a go when the weather warms up a bit. Fairly decent hike to get to it, but just wondering if anyone has fished it before and is it manageable? – i.e. access down to the water & holding out in tide run.

From doing a bit of research, a few of the canoeing clubs say the tide run is fairly fierce so I’m thinking 200gm breakaway & neap tides. Also I’ve see the reports of Kit Dunne taking cracking fish offshore so that tends to fire the enthusiasm a bit.

I fished it a fair few times when I lived in wicklow, I never had any huge success along the cliffs and rocks on the hike to the head and never had even a bite off the head itself where the run is hard and water is deep, it does scream Tope though. Further up at the light house pollock, mack and wrasse are caught during the summer months

The very tip of the headland narrows out down to a little cove, that's why it look do appealing to fish as you are into deep water and if you did land a big fish it would be handier to land than up a cliff, I made the treck a few times and I won't be doing it again unless someone does what I failed to do

it would seem someone is getting cabin fever just go to kilmeicheal point if you want to put a hole in your waders and a bruise on your butt
