Need some advice on a rod for mullet
Going to try some mullet fishing this summer and found a rod and reel combo for a good price. The rods a 9ft 14-40g shimano spinning rod. I havent bought it yet so can anyone tell me if the rods too light for mullet or will it do?
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

It would be better to look at a Power Match/Waggler/Float type rod with a line rating of something in the 3-8lb mainlines range which would be ideal for Mullet.

You may find the rod a bit heavy!
That said, if you bought it you would have a rod there that you can also use for plugging.
Maybe get a reel with a second spool and spool up lightly as you will have to flick light stuff around for mullet.

Jim Was thinking myself I could also use it for plugging instead of buying 2 rods. Thanks for the replies.
