Multiplier Combo

Recently back into Sea Fishing and having never used a multiplier I was hoping for some advice on the right combo to buy. All of my tackle is for fixed spool fishing and I believe I would need a different rod to go with the reel. I intend to mainly use it for beach pier fishing and hope to keep the cost down to around £100, if thats possible.

you wont get a combo for 100 i,d say about 180 if your looking new ? as for what to go for ? that really depends on what type of fishing you do most of?clean surf beaches ,mixed ground or rock/rough

I will be fishing mixed/rough ground. I really only want to get into this on a very basic level.
I read on another forum that the multiplier set up can be quite difficult to master and you
could really loss the head with it if it's not going right for you, then I might be wasting 100/200

you will pick up a second hand multi for €50 but you may need more than €50 to pick up a nice enough rod to suit your fishing

no need for a multi if ur only wanting to get onto it on a basic level, because theres a lot of practice needed to get used to a multiplier for the fist time.........good excuse to go fishing

the prob with a cheap multi is it will wreck anyones head to be honest i use a fixed spool for pier and rock fishing,a multi hasnt got a quick enough retreave to keep you out of the snags ,most match fishermen use fixed spool too and they are becoming more popular out on the boats too , i personally would stick with fixed spool unless you really have to have one ,you want a magged reel with brake blocks aswell to learn with or very thick oil in the bearings to slow things down ,you will prob get 30 % less distance to start off with ,some practice with just a lead before you start fishing will help.try to get a good second hand one before you slash out on new ,then if its not for you you can just flogg it without all the tears

Thanks for the replies guys, good sound info. I might just keep with the
fixed spool like you say Roger and in the meantime keep my eye out for a
second hand multiplier at the right price.
