Tried using cooked frozen prawns a few times on a couple of last minute sessions when I couldn't get any other bait. Caught coalies on them but no flounder. That could be because the mark I was fishing tends to be overrun with coalies at certain times of the year though!
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

I always stock a few bags of the frozen mixed seafood from Lidl, it contains raw prawns, mussel and squid. Perfect for all these impromptu sessions when you cant get anything else. Its cheap and if you don't use it as bait it makes a great chowder too ;)

Live ones hooked in the tail are great for wrasse & pollock on the float or freelinned.
Have used cooked ones on a few trips on the rocks mostly on the float .
For winter fishing they would not be my first bait choice ,but way not .

i,ve used shrimp that get caught when netting sandeels and found them good for all fish especially dabs and flounder ,i tried king prawn(raw) but to be honest it didnt really get touched left it on for several casts on a three hook rig with other baits taking fish on the other two hooks so thumbs down for that one :|

We use crevettes, a large raw prawn here, an excellent stand by bait for smoothounds if you can`t get crab
